An exceptionally rare original pair of LC II wall lights designed by Le Corbusier in 1954 for his architectural projects in India.

This pair was removed from the exterior of a private residence in Chandigarh, where decades of exposure have given both lights beautifully aged and individual surfaces. Acquired and presented together, they work particularly well as a pair while retaining the subtle variations in finish that come naturally through age and use.

Constructed from folded sheet metal, the design is remarkably simple. A large curved outer shade is held within a rectangular wall-mounted frame, with the shade pivoting on a horizontal axis. The angle can be adjusted using the original locking nuts at either end, allowing the light to be directed upwards or downwards. Both lights retain their original internal aluminium reflectors.

The painted surfaces have weathered considerably through decades of exterior use. Areas of muted blue-green and grey paint remain across the shades and supporting frames, interspersed with areas of naturally oxidised metal. Although closely matched, each light has developed its own subtle variations in colour, wear and oxidation. The existing finish and patina have been carefully preserved.

Originally conceived as architectural lighting rather than decorative objects, the LC II lights have a particularly strong sculptural presence. This becomes even more apparent when two examples are installed together, where the repeated curved shades and projecting metal frames create a strong architectural rhythm across the wall.

We currently have five original examples available. They may be purchased individually, as pairs or as a larger group. Additional photographs showing the different examples together can be provided upon request.

The lights can be professionally rewired to suit the electrical standards of the purchaser's country. Outdoor-rated lampholders can also be fitted if required, subject to discussion regarding the intended application.
