A stunning mid twentieth century Tuareg rug made by the nomadic Tuareg tribes of the Sahara desert. Measuring an impressive 481 x 300 cm, this is a wonderfully decorative and unusually large example. When we saw this piece we knew we had to buy it and are very tempted not to sell and keep for our own private collection. The rug is made from honey coloured woven palm reeds secured by traditionally dyed goat and camel leather. The imperfect geometric motifs and minimalist design, along with the size, are what make this piece so special.
Condition is generally very good. The piece has been hand cleaned on both sides. There are a few minor broken reeds. The leather is broken along the short ends. There is minor fading and marking to both the reed and leather. None of these issues detract from the beauty or the impact of this remarkable piece.
Viewing is welcomed at our West London showroom. High-resolution photography, detailed condition reports, and video inspections are available upon request. We offer local, national, and international shipping.
