A striking vintage table mirror designed by Uno & Östen Kristiansson for Luxus, Sweden. Dating from the mid-1960s, the mirror showcases the sculptural simplicity and exceptional craftsmanship characteristic of Swedish design.
The circular frame is beautifully crafted in warm, richly grained oak, its gently curved form giving the mirror an elegant and understated presence. The mirror is held within a wooden support that allows the angle to be adjusted, mounted on a slender central revolving stem and beautifully shaped three-point wooden base.
A number of refined constructional details demonstrate the precision woodworking and cabinetmaking for which the Kristiansson brothers were renowned. These include the small projecting finger-jointed frame holder, the tapered finger-jointed mirror surround and the keyed mitred joint to the base. Combined with the organic grain of the oak, flowing curves and restrained construction, these details give the piece its distinctive character.
The condition is very good throughout. The mirror glass remains clean, with no significant signs of age, while the oak is free from any major marks, dents or excessive wear. It has clearly been carefully looked after during its approximately sixty years of use.
