Originally designed for and used within the High Court, Chandigarh, this Pierre Jeanneret Public Bench / Sofa is a rare and important example of the furniture created for the Chandigarh Capitol Complex.

The piece retains original markings relating to its use at the High Court, providing an important connection to its original institutional setting. Constructed with a solid timber frame and Burmese teak legs, it has been comprehensively and sympathetically restored.

The original upholstery was removed and the internal strapping, foam and springs were renewed. The bench has subsequently been upholstered in Rose Uniacke Alpaca Velvet, giving the piece a refined contemporary finish while preserving the exceptional character and architectural presence of the original design.

It is presented in excellent condition. The Burmese teak legs retain a rich depth of patina, with visible evidence of decades of institutional use and the distinctive character associated with original Chandigarh furniture.
