This vintage Pierre Jeanneret Office Chair, crafted in teak with a cane seat and back, is a rare and exceptional piece of mid-century modern design. Originally designed as part of the brutalist city of Chandigarh, India, in the 1950s, this chair reflects Jeanneret’s mastery of blending form, function, and cultural craftsmanship.
The chair's ‘A’ frame, made from rich patinated teak, carries a warm, heavily patinated aged look that enhances its character and connection to its historical roots. The handwoven cane seat and backrest add texture, lightness, and comfort, providing an inviting contrast to the solid wood structure. The ergonomic design ensures a comfortable seating experience, whether used in a professional environment or as a standalone statement piece.
The patina on the frame speaks to the chair’s authenticity and timeworn beauty, enhancing its vintage charm and making it a truly special object. Its minimalist, yet elegant, form and superior craftsmanship make it an ideal addition to any space that values quality design and architectural history.
The chair is in very good vintage condition. As with all our Jeanneret prices, it was restored and caned in London using museum grade restorers. The cane colour has been toned down to match the frame. The teak is heavly patinated and show many sings of age and use. There are several ding, dent and marks. Overall, a fantastic piece.
