This exceptional and rare table was designed by Pierre Jeanneret for the Punjab University’s Science Block in Chandigarh. Over the past 15 years, this is the only example of this specific model we’ve seen outside the university itself — it is a truly remarkable piece.

The design is minimalist, modern, and deeply utilitarian, defined by Jeanneret’s signature architectural clarity. The base structure evokes the supporting columns of a building — strong, simple, and purposeful. The top is crafted from solid rosewood planks of varying widths and retains its original light blue paint, a colour used widely throughout Jeanneret’s work in Chandigarh. The surface is beautifully worn and heavily patinated, with layers of age evident in its cut marks, scratches, holes, dings, and dents — all telling the story of decades of use as a functional work table.

The contrast between the raw, architectural wooden base and the aged, painted top gives the piece a commanding visual presence. At 365 cm in length, it has a monumental quality and would serve equally well as a statement dining table, a creative work surface, or an oversized console in a gallery, studio space or hallway.

The base retains its original finish, which is worn in several areas but rich in patina, consistent with the overall aesthetic and authenticity of the piece. It has been carefully restored for structural integrity while retaining all the character and history that make it unique. The table can be disassembled into sections, making it easier to transport and install in virtually any interior.

This is a piece we have quietly cherished for over 15 years, and this is the first time we’ve made it available. It’s an important example of Jeanneret’s Chandigarh project — where modernist ideals met handcrafted local production, resulting in one of the most enduring and soulful design legacies of the 20th century.
