A rare first-production dining suite designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen, dating from the early 1950s. The suite comprises a dining table and four chairs, all original to one another and finished in rosewood.

It is increasingly unusual to find an early suite such as this remaining together, particularly in such well-preserved condition. The rosewood has developed a rich, warm tone, while the combination of moulded plywood and slender metal legs gives the suite the lightness and simplicity characteristic of Jacobsen’s furniture from this period.

The condition of the chairs is particularly noteworthy. Examples of this model that have not been carefully looked after often suffer from splitting to the moulded plywood and weakness across the backs. All four chairs remain strong and structurally sound, with no signs of splitting or previous restoration. The table top is likewise exceptionally well preserved, with no evidence of repairs.

The suite has been carefully cleaned and waxed and is presented in its best condition. As expected with pieces of this age, there are signs of wear and use, but nothing we consider excessive or detrimental to their overall appearance. The metalwork remains structurally sound and free from repair, while the original nickel plating to the chair and table legs displays varying degrees of age and wear consistent with more than seventy years of use.

A rare opportunity to acquire a complete early Arne Jacobsen dining suite, with the table and four chairs remaining together and in remarkably good original condition.

High-resolution photographs, a detailed condition report and video inspection are available upon request.
