This pair of vintage Pierre Jeanneret Kangaroo chairs is a remarkable example of mid-century modern design and a rare piece of architectural history. Designed by Swiss architect Pierre Jeanneret in collaboration with Le Corbusier, these chairs were originally crafted for the Brutalist city of Chandigarh, India, in the 1950s. A perfect fusion of functional design and cultural influence, these chairs reflect the unique vision of Jeanneret as well as the fusion of modernist principles with local craftsmanship.

The Kangaroo chair is renowned for its distinct, elegant form and innovative structure. Its wide, slanted backrest and spacious seat provide both comfort and support, while the robust teak wood frame showcases the natural beauty of the material. The chair’s open, airy design creates a sense of lightness, yet its solid construction ensures durability and longevity, making it both a functional and statement-making piece.

These vintage chairs carry the distinct patina of time, adding to their allure and authenticity. The worn, rich teak wood and slightly aged upholstery only enhance their charm, making them a true testament to the craftsmanship of their era. With roots in one of the most significant architectural projects of the 20th century, they are not just chairs; they are a piece of history and design legacy.

The chairs are in good vintage condition. Like all our Jeanneret collection the pieces were restored to museum quality in London. The cane has been replaced but aged to match the rich, deep patina of the chairs. The pair of chairs are a matched pair coming from the same workshop.
